Chile’s Pinera struggles to make headway

Congressional pushback and national disasters are among a few of the problems holding Chilean President Sebastian Piñera back from progressing in all that he had hoped to achieve in office. His party does not hold the majority in Congress, making it difficult to pass reforms. Police scandals and corruption have forced Mr. Piñera to re-evaluate the legitimacy and structure of Chile’s elite police. And it is not lost upon Piñera’s opposition his leaning towards increased financial investments from China, all the while criticizing Venezuela’s political regime and foreign relations.
